Biography
Dr Rilana Baumeister is a specialist in radiology, with a focus on forensic imaging as well as musculoskeletal and breast imaging. She worked as a consultant from August 2023, and since April 2024 has been a Senior Consultant at the highly renowned Zurich Breast Center.
Dr Rilana Baumeister began her medical career in 2011 as a resident in radiology at the Cantonal Hospital of Schaffhausen. Until 2016, she held further positions as a resident in radiology and neuroradiology at the Cantonal Hospital of Frauenfeld and the University Hospital Zurich. From 2017 to 2018, she worked as a senior physician in radiology at Bülach Hospital, before taking on the same role from 2018 to 2019 at the Cantonal Hospital of Winterthur in cooperation with the private Lindberg Clinic RIMED Radiology. From 2020 to 2023, she held the position of senior physician in forensic medicine and imaging at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich, while also serving as deputy head of the department of forensic imaging and radiology.
Dr Rilana Baumeister earned her medical degree from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, in 2010. Her doctoral thesis focused on gastrointestinal FDG accumulation without morphological correlation as a potential predictor for the emergence of malignant gastrointestinal tumours. She has also published numerous scientific articles on forensic imaging in journals such as Forensic Imaging, Radiology Case Reports and the Journal of Forensic Radiology and Imaging.
In addition to her academic and clinical work, Dr Baumeister leads forensic imaging workshops for the Zurich Police Academy, supervises medical theses and contributes to the structured training of resident physicians. Her membership in the Swiss Society of Senology (SGS) underscores her commitment and recognition within the medical community.
