Biography
Certified physician Sofia Küster is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, and has been working as a consultant at the Zurich Breast Center since early 2023. She speaks German and English.
Since joining the Zurich Breast Center, she has been continuously furthering her professional development. She participated in an MIBB (minimally invasive breast biopsy) workshop by the Swiss Society of Senology, and performs vacuum-assisted minimally invasive biopsies for the removal of benign breast tumours.
She also attends multiple continuing education courses on the topic of ‘Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer’ (Genetic Counseling in Oncology 2024 by the Swiss Cancer Institute (SAKK), and a German programme on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer run by the German Cancer Society (DKG)) and supports the team with genetic counselling. Ms Küster is also interested in counselling for menopause-related conditions.
Her membership in the GCPT at SAKK highlights her dedication and active participation in the medical specialist community.
Her professional journey began with a gynaecology and obstetrics elective at St. Franziskus Hospital in Ahlen, Germany. She then travelled to Ghana to work as a volunteer with a focus on gynaecology and obstetrics at Comboni Hospital in Sogakope. She subsequently worked as a resident in gynaecology and obstetrics at St. Franziskus Hospital in Münster, the Cantonal Hospital Baden, and the Limmattal Hospital. In 2023, she obtained the title of specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics.
Dr Sofia Küster earned her medical degree from the University of Lübeck, Germany, before continuing her studies in human medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, graduating in 2016.
