Biography
Prof Dr Uwe Güth, a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, has been working as a Senior Consultant at the Zurich Breast Center since November 2015. He coordinates the certified breast cancer centre at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich, and directs the Zurich West Breast Centre. He is a member of the Zurich Breast Center’s Medical Committee and heads the interdisciplinary tumour board.
After completing his specialist training and early years as a senior physician in Germany, he served as senior physician at the University Hospital Basel’s gynaecology clinic for ten years from 2001. From 2011 to 2015, he was head of department and chief physician in gynaecology and head of the certified breast centre at the Cantonal Hospital Winterthur. In 2009, he received a fellowship at the Gynaecological Cancer Centre at University College London Hospital.
In 2011, he was awarded the gynaecological oncology specialisation by the European Society for Gynaecological Oncology. In 2023, he became one of the first specialists in Switzerland to receive the new senology title from the Swiss Institute for Postgraduate and Continuing Medical Education. He has also been a senior breast surgeon for many years following guidelines of the German Cancer Society, and is an auditor for the Swiss Q label, which certifies Swiss breast centres.
Prof Dr Uwe Güth studied medicine at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, graduating in 1994. In 2009, he received his habilitation (venia legendi) at the University of Basel and was awarded the title of titular professor in 2012.
His scientific work includes approximately 150 publications in leading medical journals, with 80 as first or senior author. His research mainly focuses on various aspects of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. From 2022 to 2024, he led Switzerland’s largest publication project on euthanasia and assisted suicide in the international literature.
