To mark Pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, Affidea is announcing the launch of a new podcast on breast health, produced by the Affidea brustCare Breast Center Zurich. Hosted by PD Dr. Constanze Elfgen, Head of Breast Surgery and a recognised specialist in senology, the podcast aims to break taboos, provide clear and accessible information, and help restore confidence among patients and their families.

“Breast health is not limited to cancer treatment; it also includes prevention, early detection, emotional support and holistic aftercare. In this podcast, we also want to give a voice to patients and experts,” explains PD Dr. Elfgen.

The podcast aims to combat myths and misinformation about breast cancer circulating online and to provide verified information on a topic that concerns all women. “Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but we don’t focus solely on the disease itself: we also address early detection and the measures women can take to stay healthy. Of course, our podcast can also be helpful for healthcare professionals, especially those who are not specialised in breast health,” she adds.

An innovative podcast with concrete topics

Each episode covers a specific topic, ranging from early detection through mammography to breast surgery, integrative medicine, hormones, and personal patient stories. PD Dr. Elfgen invites medical specialists, researchers, and women directly affected by breast cancer.

The first three episodes are titled “Understanding a Breast Cancer Diagnosis,” “My Breast Cancer Journey,” and “Early Detection with Mammography – Yes or No?”. Seven additional episodes will be produced and released throughout 2026.

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

A prevention tool introduced for Pink October

“For a long time, breast diseases were a taboo subject in society, but today people speak about them more openly. There are many initiatives addressing these topics through different channels, such as this new podcast,” says PD Dr. Elfgen.

In Switzerland, nearly one in eight women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. If detected at an early stage, the disease can often be cured. “The earlier the diagnosis is made, the higher the chances of recovery. That is the message we want to convey during Pink October,” she concludes.

Breast cancer – key figures:

  • A significant increase in cases among women under 40 in recent years.
  • 22% of breast cancer diagnoses occur before the age of 50, meaning outside organised screening programmes.
  • At the other end of the spectrum, 20% of cases occur after the age of 74, also outside systematic screening.

This podcast is part of Affidea’s mission to provide outstanding, human and accessible medical care by supporting prevention and awareness initiatives.
