FAQs
What treatment options are available for breast cancer?
There are several treatment options for all stages of breast cancer. Your doctor will carry out tests to get a clearer picture of your illness. The type, stage, grade and molecular profile of the tumour are recorded. This helps the treatment team to design an effective treatment plan tailored to you and your needs.
Your treatment plan may include one or more of the following:
- Surgery – targeted surgical removal
- Radiotherapy – precise and gentle on healthy tissue
- Chemotherapy – targeted use of drugs
- Hormone therapy – targeted blockade of hormone-dependent tumour cells
- Immunotherapy – activating the body's own defences against cancer
- Targeted therapy – high-precision treatment for selected tumour types
We also offer complementary and integrative medicine as well as supportive therapies to help improve your quality of life after cancer treatment. These include traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), yoga, psycho-oncological therapy and more besides.
How long does the treatment take?
The duration of treatment depends on several factors: The type of cancer, stage and grade of the disease, your age and your general state of health.
If cancer is detected early, treatment can be less invasive and completed within a shorter period of time. Full recovery after breast surgery takes several weeks. Some patients require a combination of different therapies, which can take more time. Hormone therapy is often taken in tablet form over several years.
Your doctor is the best person to discuss your treatment plan with, providing insight into the expected timeline and stages of your treatment.
When is chemotherapy necessary for breast cancer?
Not all patients need to have chemotherapy as part of their breast cancer treatment. Your doctor will carry out various tests to determine which treatment is best for you. This decision will be discussed with you and consultants from various disciplines, such as oncology.
On our chemotherapy webpage, you can find out how chemotherapy works, who it is suitable for and what to expect.
What does integrative medicine mean?
Integrative medicine includes supportive therapies that you can use alongside conventional treatment. In some cases, these improve the effectiveness of your conventional treatment and can reduce side effects of the therapy. The focus is on treating you as a whole person beyond your cancer diagnosis.
Find out how our supportive care services can accompany you throughout your cancer journey – from traditional Chinese medicine to oncological rehabilitation and more.
What costs should I expect?
The cost of your treatment depends on the type of treatment. In principle, treatments prescribed by your doctor are covered by basic insurance. Your doctor will inform you of any additional costs. In some cases, it may be advisable to check with your health insurance provider in advance to find out which services are covered.
With integrative therapy, supplementary insurance can make covering the costs easier.
